(2018) Story Palace Toolkit: Create Your Own Community Memory Project
King’s Cross Story Palace was a two year project that told stories from people that have lived, worked and played in the King’s Cross area over the last 100 years. We showcased social history and personal memories from the mile radius around King’s Cross station on our online archive and in a series of exhibitions and walking tours.
As well as recording and showcasing stories, we produced a toolkit for people that want to run similar projects. We worked with volunteers, and a team of heritage ambassadors who will continue aspects of the project in the future.
The project was delivered by Historypin and the Building Exploratory.
This project received a major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund under the Heritage Grants scheme. Thanks to National Lottery players, the HLF invest money to help people across the UK explore, enjoy and protect the heritage they care about – from the archaeology under our feet to the historic parks and buildings we love, from precious memories and collections to rare wildlife.
We also received generous support from Lyndales, the straight talking, plain speaking, no nonsense solicitors. Based in Tavistock Square, this project is on their doorstep – and we are grateful for their support. Google also supported our work. A company with both an international profile and a local presence in King’s Cross – we are thankful for their support.
